As every year, in the distinguished rooms of park Hyatt Paris Vendome in Paris the prestigious prizes Villlegature 2007 have been awarded. In accordance with tradition, the managers of three luxurious hotels as well as a group of twenty journalists from the leading world mass media were selecting the most beautiful hotels of the Old Continent. The jury, including Ezio Indiani from the Principie di Savoia Hotel in Mediolan, Jacqueline Secchi from the Baltimore Hotel in Paris, Alain Aster from the Raphael Hotel in Paris together with journalists-jurors, decided that in category „Meilleure architecture intérieure d’hôtel en Europe 2007” the winner is the Old Hotel from Kraków.
Traditionally, the ceremony took place in the presence of the social circles of Paris, representatives of diplomatic corps, outstanding architects, artists, publishers, people from the world of media and the owners of luxurious hotel chains.
The Stary Hotel gained advantage over eminent competition. After a few stages of selection, with participation of several dozen of European hotels, six carefully selected ones were shortlisted for the top final. The rivals were: The Pand Hotel from Bruges, the Parisian Fouquet, Château Les Crayeres from Reims, Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resorts from Monaco and New York Palace from Budapest. So far, none of the Polish hotels had been awarded in Villegiature Grand Prix. Two years ago the Copernicus Hotel from Krakow, also the Likus Brothers’ hotel, was nominated for the top final, but was defeated by a hotel in Amsterdam.
Opened in spring 2006, The Stary Hotel, located 20 meters away from the Market Square in Krakow, is located, as well as the other hotels from the group, in the historic building. It is an ideal blend of the centuries of tradition and high hotel standards of the 21 century.
The Old Hotel is one of a few of the chain of hotels owned by Likus Hotele i Restauracje group. The others are Copernicus (the only one in Poland associated in an exclusive chain Relais et Chateaux), The Pod Różą Hotel - oldest in Krakow, the legendary Katowice Monopol Hotel, and another Monopol nearby the Wrocław Market Square, which is just being put to its pre-war glory as well as prepared for a ceremonial opening in 2008. Another hotel which is being prepared for renovation is the most recent purchase of the Group – The Łódź Grand Hotel at Piotrkowska street.
