The history of the building and the legendary Cafe Central are united with the history of the XIX century Katowice. The Hotel opened its doors in 1903, but the biggest prosperity came in the era between the wars of the XX century, when it became the favorite place for meetings among industry businessman, regulars of the salons and the artistic bohemia of those times.
In the past, great musicians used to stay at Monopol: Karol Szymanowski (one of the suites is dedicated in a special way to the memory of this great Polish composer) and Artur Rubinstein, as well as Tadeusz Boy-Zelenski and Eugeniusz Bodo. The splendor of the hotel was confirmed by the wedding reception of the world famous artists: Polish tenor Jan Kiepura and the Hungarian actress Marta Eggerth, which took place in the hotel restaurant in the fall of 1936.
Among today’s famous guests, we can find the soccer teams of England and Portugal, as well as rock stars (among them Deep Purple and Phil Collins). In the hotel, traditionally stay the classical music performers, given the fact of the cooperation between the Monopol and the Silesia Philharmonic. The proof of satisfying the most demanding customers are the daily reservations for the Lufthansa pilots.
The hotel has 108 rooms; most of them are inspired by the Art Deco style. All the rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a fast internet connection. There is an independent WiFi zone. The guests can use the underground facilities for free: among them are the swimming pool, two saunas (dry and steam) and an impressive fully equipped fitness room.
There are two restaurants open in the Monopol hotel: Polish and Italian, as well the coffee bar and two bars. For the interest of the companies there are three conference rooms available. Coffee breaks, lunches and dinners are included with the conference. Wedding receptions, banquettes, art auctions and fashion shows are also organized at the hotel.
It is possible to do some shopping while staying at the Monopol Hotel. Great choices can be found in the gallery stores like Bang & Olufsen and Versace, food can be found in the Italian delicatessen with a choice of hams, deli meat and cheeses from Italy, and drinks can be found in the Vinoteka furnished with wines, mostly from Italy.
