Having collaborated with Baxter and Richard Ginori for many years, a new conception was born; it was almost natural, given that great minds think alike, and led to the creation of this project.
The Likus Home Concept, Temporary Store, is a place where, over a 6 month period, new limits in design will be presented, where furniture collections and porcelain become art, where the unique character of these objects takes on an even greater significance. In this context, every object has a dual function: practical and artistic.
The inauguration of the Likus Home Concept took place on 25 November 2010. The media patron was the monthly magazine Elle Decoration / Polish edition.
it is the formula of the Store that items of furniture are presented as unique exhibits and, just as in the case of art, they have a limited display period.
Only for a few months can you experience these objects in a one off, signature arrangement.
The store is located in a historical Renaissance residence which has been completely restored and modernised in a bold manner. It occupies the first floor (piano nobile) and its windows afford a direct view of Krakow’s Rynek – the main square and beating heart of the whole city.
Baxter is presenting part of its Punto Oro collection, according to the design of Paola Navone; this project involves a true metamorphosis into something like a fashion accessory – leather, just like fabric, undergoes different types of processes: it is dyed, has a patina placed on it and is finished. The leather is treated as a new, elastic raw material – it is joined with metal, basted, used as a cover, upholstered, cut out… Paola Navone has mastered all aspects of leather, creating a new, modern and surprising repertoire of decorations.
Paola Navone is also the author of a number of porcelain items exhibited in the store and she displays yet more of her qualities: the ability to fuse functionality with aesthetics. The watchword of the project is multifunctionality. By looking at objects from an entirely different perspective we can make use of them and reinterpret them, depending on our needs at the time, appearance, creativity…
True innovation is to be found in the vintage range from Baxter, achieved by a pair of designers who enjoy an international reputation - Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow. The common theme which connects the artists and Baxter is that of “recycling” – formed in response to the growing need for ecological awareness. Draga and Aurel shape machinery taken from old factories, bringing them back to life and creating sculptures from them: Aurel works with walls, furniture and one-off objects, giving them an unexpected transformation that creates something truly unrepeatable. This, in combination with the fabrics derived from Draga’s work, creates a fascinating and very successfully stylish marriage.
